Yum design, my own project that I started in 2020. Yum design creates designs that help the marine environment, it is a brand aimed at sea lovers.
What has been your professional career?
I graduated from Elisava with a degree in Industrial Design Engineering. During the years of my degree, I was able to do an internship in the biomedical sector, a very interesting sector to which I have not dedicated more time for now. Later on, I started my postgraduate degree, also at Elisava, because I was awarded first place in the Ei! This postgraduate course, focused on automotive modelling, opened the doors to many brands, including the well-known SEAT and CUPRA.
The world of surface modelling for the automotive industry has been with me to this day. While I was doing other projects and studies in sectors other than the automotive industry. My next postgraduate degree was focused on research. My other projects were related to sustainability. One of these projects, and the most important one, is a wave power system that generates energy from the movement or impact of waves, while at the same time providing coastal protection. All these own projects were very educational and enriched my professional development in another direction.
I also had the opportunity to work with universities such as Elisava and the ULPGC. Teaching is a fundamental pillar in my life, I participated in different subjects of the degree and later in subjects of the postgraduate degree in surface modelling for the automotive industry.
All these professional fields helped me to develop different attributes. Automotive modelling gave me better aesthetic and proportional skills. My own projects introduced me to the world of entrepreneurship and I was able to acquire know-how in sectors that interested me. On the other hand, teaching forced me to improve my communication skills. I am applying all this to my latest project, Yum design. A project in which I use my knowledge in sustainability, design and communication; to keep learning and create products that help the oceans.
What is design for you?
Design is a very broad concept that encompasses aspects that enhance an idea. These attributes can be functional or aesthetic. Depending on the project and the target audience, one attribute needs to be emphasised more than the other, but always with a certain balance.
What inspires you professionally speaking?
Improving the planet and self-demanding. I believe that having a purpose is necessary, but a discipline that allows you to be constant and hard-working is also basic.
How would you define your time at Elisava?
I remember my time at Elisava as an enriching stage in my life. I learnt many things, but above all I learnt to be autonomous. That has allowed me to launch my Yum design project today.

What has made the biggest impact on you out of everything you have learned at Elisava?
Elisava is a boost to creativity, it sets no limits to anything and allows you to develop your full potential. This is combined with practical content that is of real use in the job market. I learned and enjoyed my degree so much that I would do it again.
A piece of advice
Take advantage of the degree to learn what your interests are. During the final year and the Final Degree Project (TFG) apply all your knowledge to carry out projects that define the career path you want to take. The Final Degree Project could be the start of a start-up or the next Apple, who knows.
A challenge for the future
Improving the planet, we have the capacity as designers to influence the first stage of products and we have the obligation to create products that leave behind a better planet.
