The 'Agència de Residus de Catalunya' (ARC) has carried out the delivery of the Ecodisseny 2023 Awards, a distinction that recognizes Catalan products whose design is focused on sustainability, allowing them to improve their environmental impact throughout their life cycle.
In the "Young Design" category, which rewards products on the market or under development developed by students or recent graduates, this year's winner was Elisava Alumni Joan Pahissa Aranda, for his innovative dockside mooring defense system called Veluga. This system is made from recycled plastics collected from the Mediterranean Sea.
In addition, Veluga incorporates sensors integrated in the defense that are connected to an application, which allows to know the level of occupation of the dock in real time. Currently, the product is in a prototyping and business model analysis development phase, within the framework of the Blue Up program, a collaboration between Barcelona Activa and the Port of Barcelona.
